Marathon Man – The Single Best Exercise For Marathon Runners is Right Here!

I think we can both agree that running a marathon is no easy task. In order to accomplish such a feat you must have your body in tip top running order! As a professional I have to say that if I had to pick one single exercise for you to implement to get you into marathon running shape it would be the double arm overhead kettlebell swing. This is a strength endurance lift that is tremendous for helping to forge both your skeletal muscles, as well as, your cardiovascular fitness.
The overhead kettlebell swing is strength training for runners at it’s best. This is without a doubt the best weight training exercise for endurance runners to perform for optimal racing results once all the smoke has cleared. This single exercise incorporates hundreds of your muscles at once and forces your cardiovascular conditioning to adapt at a more rapid rate than anything else you could do within the scope of your training. This lift is performed by you picking the bell up off of the ground with both arms and swinging it like a pendulum from between your legs all the way up to above your head. 
This is done by you having to implement a common technique in kettlebell training known as the hip snap. The hip snap is executed by you having to constantly and fluently flex and extend at both your hips and knees in order to build the necessary momentum to swing the kettlebell above your head. This lift forces you to build a strong core, develop superior hip power, and it will strengthen your back and shoulders like no other exercise you will ever attempt. This is one you’ll be glad you implemented about 12 1/2 miles into your grueling race.
If you haven’t gotten yourself acquainted with kettlebell training then start now. You are only making your runs harder than they have to be. This is weight training for your muscles to withstand a long physical race! Remember that anyone can train hard, but only champions train smart. Give it a try my friend.
