The Magical Pill…

Do you want to get rich FAST? Do you want to make some gains FAST? Do you want to achieve immediate success in everything you do FAST? Well if so then you need to pump the brakes and immediately stop what you’re doing to read this article FAST!

The Magical Pill…

Yes, today I’m talking about what many refer to as the Magical Pill, but I first want to point something out. So unless you were living underneath a rock somewhere last Sunday then you probably were at least aware that the Super Bowl was played. Now whether you’re a football fan or not just hang with me here for a second because I’m leading up to a point.

I’ve got your Magical Pill right here!

Now one thing that I generally notice with many people that do watch the big game (and that may tend to get a little more enthused about it than you or I) is that they often have a very limited view of what they are actually watching. In other words, whether they are cheering for their own team, booing the other team, or even getting angry with players from their own team for making a mistake they are only seeing what is essentially the final product of something has been building for weeks, months, and even years at a time.

You see even though the Super Bowl is an annual event the teams/organizations and players involved spend their entire lives preparing for the possibility of making it to this game as the ultimate goal. In other words, those guys for each team didn’t just come out of nowhere last Sunday to walk into that stadium to play that game in front of thousands of fans in person, and with millions watching around the world at dive bars and within the comfort of their own homes.

Here’s some magical ways for you to stretch out!

No, this was a lifelong preparation for everyone involved. For the athletes it encompassed such tasks as many early mornings of pounding iron, speed work, agility work, film study, injury prevention, overcoming injury, and on and on and on. For the coaches it was many nights in the film room, practice preparation, hiring the right supporting cast, and on and on and on.

For the team owners it was many years pursuing the right personnel and making sure the team had the best resources possible to succeed. It was years of planning, hard work, and sacrifice to earn the success of making a Super Bowl appearance, and even better a Super Bowl championship. In other words, there was NO MAGICAL PILL!

Now do you see what I mean when many people didn’t realize what they were really watching? It just really irritates the piss out of me in this day and age where people actually think (and even expect) they can get what others have worked a lifetime for overnight.

Not only do people buy into this myth of the Magical Pill, but entire industries have been built on this belief in total bullshit. Think about it. You have the Magical “weight loss” Pill, the Magical “get rich quick” Plan, and I’m sure many others that I’ve failed to touch on so far that just haven’t hit the commercials yet.

After the Super Bowl I remember hearing the quarterback for the Seahawks in an interview. Russell Wilson was talking about a discussion that he had with his father before he had passed away. He was reflecting back during all the hard work, and at times when the doubt monster was trying to creep into his mind and his dad simply asked him the question “Hey Russell, Why Not You?” He then turned to use this message with his teammates before the game.

I thought this was a profound message and had to be said. Just wanted to point this out the next time someone tries to sell you on a message that life just comes easy. Work, grind, and be smart…just like your training should be!

I hope you enjoyed today’s article and if so then please drop a comment in the box below this post. Remember that most anyone can train hard, but only the best train smart my friend.

  1. Ah yes … “Just buy ____________ and within a very short time with no effort whatsoever you too can …” I truly believe that if someone could come up with a way to package dog crap scraped up off the lawn in an attractive manner they could sell it to the general public as a magical hair restorer. Marketing thrives on stupid and the amazing thing to me is that people get burned repeatedly and fail to learn. That, is a working definition of STUPID.

The natural follow on amazement factor is that it really does not take all that much time and effort to become an informed consumer. With regard to fitness, historically documented accounts and current, relevant, research is readily available. Still, I continue to see the steady march of “the next great thing” flood the Internet with promises of glowing health and totally buff physique … all from the comforts of your Lazy Boy while scarfing down a bag of doughnuts … it’s insane.

Your mantra of being an intelligent training individual rings true for all time.

  2. Doc I really like your point on the documented research that is available on prime examples of fit individuals living here in the real world, and not on what many see on the “Biggest Loser’s” version of so-called reality TV. You’re exactly right how “stupid” gets sold every time.

Even without this readily available research that guys like both you and myself like to refer to it amazes me how many people just lack the common sense practice of the “eyeball” contest. It’s not that hard to decipher who has a relatively fit body and who just has the illusion of one. Right on target my friend.

I was looking forward to your vent on this one and as expected I was not disappointed. Your point is very well communicated and I got nice chuckle out of it too.
