Training intensity, or exercise intensity seems to be a big topic this day and age. With the tremendous popularity of CrossFit alone one can see that training intensity is probably here to stay for a while as the main ingredient of many programs. The fact is though training intensity has been around in many forms long before CrossFit was a brand name. It really only boils down to one thing at the end of the day and that is that training intensity can be a real Ball Buster! However the question I want to pose today is that should this be the case every time you step foot in the weight room or onto the performance floor?

So the other day I had a couple of newbies start out with me during a beginner’s strength and conditioning session. I had them performing the ever beloved functional wall squat or as I like to state the face the wall squat. Unlike most usual squatting drills when involving the wall most people face away from it. With the face the wall squat you are…yep you guessed it, facing the wall! The point of the drill is to enforce proper moving technique for the squat exercise. As I was using certain cues to touch on certain trigger points to help them refine their technique I noticed a back brace on one of the students. As it turned out both were wearing the same thing. So today I’m going to attempt to smash down some common themes and issues that tend to come up when involving strength training for women. You know the ones I’m talking about. Things like going above 5 lbs. will turn a lady into the She-Hulk, although I would argue the She-Hulk is hot to trot. I mean just look at the picture above! Ok, maybe She-Hulk was a bad example, but perhaps her male counterpart would’ve been the better comparison.
