The truth is that in order to succeed at any endeavor you've got to have faith in what you are doing. In terms of being either a great athlete or in super great shape you've got to believe in your strength training program, period. Without the belief in what you are doing you might as well be sitting on the couch eating twinkies while breathing louder than anybody in the room.

So an athlete walks in to train and I make him walk out puking. Did I just do my job as a strength coach? Well, maybe I did or maybe I didn't. It depends on the athlete and the principles that were applied to the particular situation. Maybe I trained the athlete beyond his threshold to hold his lunch, or maybe he is just prone to losing his lunch when physically exerted? Either way the point is that the puke test is NOT an accurate gauge as to how good or bad a strength and conditioning program actually is. There is, or should be, a method behind the madness!
