Hourglass #2 - Kum saati #2 by oozhan Time is always a factor! Whether you're running a business, robbing a bank, or trying to fit your strength training in at some point during the day time is always the thing that has to be considered. Ok maybe the robbing the bank part was a bad example, but for most folks it's not easy to fit in an effective strength training session due to time constraints. Keep on reading to discover how my friend. Read more

Muay Thai Strength And Conditioning...Training For A Mule Kick!!!

Sidewalk Stencil, Muleshoe, TX by Robby Virus

The older I get the more I realize just how truly incredible the power of language can be. That's right, I said language.  The ability of being able to communicate a message to one another is a very powerful and essential thing. I may be sounding like Captain Obvious (Using the Captain Obvious Reference again ;-) )here, however even though we may be capable of communicating a message to one another sometimes the receiver of that message may not always interpret our message the way we intended it to be communicated. Let that sink in for a second. Hopefully you are interpreting this message the way I intended it to be. So where am I going with this? Just keep reading Grasshopper!

Alfred Hitchcock by bobo.keen

Alfred Hitchcock Logo-I'm Not That Rounded

Over Christmas I just got the Alfred Hitchcock DVD collection and it spurred an idea in me to come up with this particular blog series. So why Alfred Hitchcock? Because in my book he's cool, so just deal with it ok! Just keep reading and you'll see how I connect the dots.  You see one of the things that made Hitchcock so great was his ability to manipulate the mood of a scene or episode by using a particular camera angle that mimicked a person's gaze giving the viewer the feel of voyeurism. Because of his unique style of camera angles and editing he was also able to shift and manipulate the perception of the viewer by playing on and maximizing emotions such as fear, anxiety, and empathy. Today's Strength Training Theater intends on doing the same thing!

Just Some General Stuff...

Uma Thurman by cabiduria

Man I love the 2 part movie Kill Bill. There is something pretty cool about a samurai sword wielding blond that can take out 88 crazy bad guys before she opens up a can of whoop a#s on a formidable foe. Uma if you are reading this I am a fan and just keep that in mind when looking for a trainer when Kill Bill 3 rolls around. Nonetheless, I just thought I would share with you one of my favorite martial arts films. We all have to get inspiration from somewhere and Kill Bill always moves the meter with me when it comes down to getting a little extra motivation for physical preparedness. I'm only talking about 1% external motivation, but that 1% can be a big deal at times. Obviously I don't watch both movies in their entirety before training, however the music from the soundtrack sure hits the spot.

His Cigars Weigh More Than Your Gym Bag!

the-most-interesting-man-in-the-world by markharmon72

Have you ever been to the gym and seen those guys that tote their gym bags around in one hand and a gallon of water in the other? From one corner of the room to the other they drag their stuff around trying to look like they are accomplishing something when all they are really doing is taking up space. It seems that if they devoted half the energy into lifting and training with some sort of purpose as they do trying to put up the appearance of trying to look like they are doing something productive then they might actually be interesting. The Most Interesting Man realizes this which is why only he can pull this off and those guys can't.

5 Tactics To Help You Chew Up Your Athletic Competition...

UGA Getting Some Practice In Before He Chews Up His Competition!

Let's face it, if you're intending on chewing up your competition then you've got to have the mindset of a Junkyard Dawg! I always enjoy encouraging my athletes and fitness personnel by speaking in terms of our training plan. I do this because it is a team effort for all even though I also deal with guys and girls involved in individual sports as well.

I am a firm believer that having this team mindset not only helps to ease the pressure of the athlete(s), but it also gives them focus and a real sense of comfort knowing that we are going to be working on tactics that will give them a real advantage over their competition come gameday. I work really hard on helping them to focus less on their competitors and more on what they have to be doing day by day in order to defeat the opposition when the time comes.

So you're standing in the ring and your opponent comes over to face off with you after the ref yells something like let's get it on or let's get after it! Your blood boils, your nervous, and all you can think about is knocking the guy out. You know you have one hell of a punch and maybe even a better kick so you unload on him when you have an opening. You land the shots, but he is still coming after you!  Now your thinking damn it did he even feel that? Now you know you've got to be prepared to go the distance just in case.

Inch By Inch Add Some POP To Your Performance...

Jump! - series by Chiara F2

Performance is a big deal to me and my training philosophy. I don't care if you can bench press 500 lbs. because if you can't run and jump with speed and move with quick reaction then you and your 500 lb. bench press will take an ass whoopin on the field of play, in the ring, or on the court during game time. Developing the total athlete means that you have to learn how to train your nervous system to respond and RESPOND well!  Read more

rattlesnake by todbaker

I bet you're wondering why I have a picture of a vicious rattlesnake staring you right in the face on my fitness blog, right? I am going to make a point about this later on in this post so until then you'll just have to keep reading. Anyway, I had a unique experience the other in trying to work with an energetic bunch of teenagers during a strength and conditioning class. The first lesson I teach to all of my new students (including this particular class) is that in order to master something you've got to be able to follow instructions. This is an absolute must when it comes to lifting technique and what is expected of anyone who is looking to progress in the act of getting stronger, fitter, and more athletic tomorrow than they are today. 3 Total Body Lifts For Extreme Strength!

During all of my years of training and experience with discovering how to build on strength I have learned many things. One of the many things that I have learned is that "strength" has many forms. Some guys are great lifting heavy weight, some do outstanding things with just their own body resistance, and some are very fast and agile. Because of the many characteristics that display varying types of strength I have included 3 different lifts that will help you to contribute to speed, power, size, and muscular endurance.  Keep on reading if I have your attention.
