Totally Random Thoughts And Ideas From Your Strength Coach!

395/730: My ideas are full of heads by Mr. Flibble

I just felt like babbling about some random stuff today just to shake things up! The weather here in Georgia has sucked this week so I'm on the sunshine waiting list if you know what I mean. Nonetheless, I'm grateful for the opportunity to blast out this post on whatever idea happens to flow through my brain as I am hammering the keys on my Mac. I hope you will enjoy this, but even if you don't I will also be grateful if you told everyone you did anyway!

Combat The SLOUCH!

Combatting the SLOUCH mode requires discipline and persistence. So Brandon what do you mean by SLOUCH? Well, it's probably what you are doing right now as you are reading this very post. When folks sit at a computer screen, drive their car, eat a meal, or do most anything else for that matter they usually end up SLOUCHING and reinforcing that gorilla pose, or dog pose in this case...

You've got to break yourself of this or you WILL break yourself. That's right, the spine is clearly not in a safe neutral position, the core strength required to maintain this pose is nonexistent, and you are training your body to be in flexion on a regular basis hour after hour, day after day, and year after year. This is why people end up having chronic back and shoulder issues. What does the gym rat do that does this all day? He goes to the gym with good intentions to get in shape, loads up the barbell, and proceeds to engage in bench pressing and crunches to reinforce more what? If you guessed FLEXION then you guessed right!

More Randomness...

Well the Gwinnett County court system certainly tried to make mine by summoning me for jury duty this week. Look I know it's my civic duty and all of that, but I'm looking forward to this about as much as I would look forward to sleeping on a bed of nails. It is certainly going to play an interesting part into my schedule if they decide to hold on to me or find me juror worthy. This is my first time doing this, but as you may know it is a wait and see kind of a process.

Hopefully I'll be able to utilize the court time to get caught up on my usual online duties or better yet maybe my services just won't be needed.  I guess I'll have to just cross that bridge when the time comes.

Even More Randomness...

There are some cool things coming on the horizon. Maybe 2012 will turn out to be a better year for most than 2011 ever was. Nonetheless, I am faced with some pretty cool opportunities that seem to be coming to light here in a few months. I'm not at liberty to say what that is at the moment, but I will definitely keep you up to date whether this opportunity snowballs into a huge success or crashes and burns. I'm a positive guy and expect this to turn out well, but in this day and age I've also learned to be REAL too! Stay tuned for more about this in the near future.

All in all, the week is going smooth. I had a great week of training both myself and my students. I had one of my very dedicated female students upgrade her kettlebell set from me. The interesting thing is that she is petit and all of about a 120 lb. and she got herself a 48 kg (106 lb.) kettlebell that she is determined to swing on a regular basis! A strength coach can't help but love that kind of dedication. Keep up the good work "Karis!" ;-) If you haven't gotten influenced by my whole strength culture then you can start by making sure to sign up to join my emailing list right here for FREE.
