Chuck Norris by billbobful That's right, Chuck Norris kicks so hard that he even blows Justin Bieber's head off his shoulders. Don't panic Bieber fever is alive and well, but only because Chuck Norris allows it.! We all know Chuck can kick harder than anyone on the planet...well almost anyone! Keep reading if you want to enhance your MMA kicking ability up to the Chuck Norris standard!

The Functional Element...

Combat training for the purpose of MMA and MMA fitness is the only way you can compete with Chuck. Let's face it, kicking is a major part of combat sports, plus it's entertaining, plus it is a major part of completing that ever famous phrase That guy just took an ass kicking! Which obviously includes the keyword kicking at the end. I think you pretty much understand. Anyways, kicking is essential and you've got to enhance and practice it in order to get that MMA super kick.

Now aside from sharpening the technique of your kicking ability you've also got to make sure that your body has a strong functional quality to it in order to develop that super kick. This means that you've got to possess a sound level of core strength, hip mobility, hip stability, and leg power in order to pull it off. Now without being Captain Obvious anymore than I have to be developing strength is going to help with all of this, but it's not just strength in general, but rather a specific type of strength...being that of the functional quality.

Front Squat vs Back Squat

When it comes to developing that functional strength that I was just talking about squats are a great option. Not only should you be utilizing squats, but specifically front squats have proven to be a better option over the loaded back squat version. Why is this the case? Well first of all, because the weight is loaded in the front of the body this better distributes the weight more soundly throughout the body enabling you to better develop that functional element that I keep talking about. In addition to this studies have shown that there is a lot less compression involved at the knee joint itself along with having less compression on the spine. Thirdly, this has also proven to NOT take anything away from the development of that much needed leg drive during the movement even though those compressive forces are greater with the back squat technique than with the front squat version.

Order Russian Kettlebells

Front squats also provide additional flexibility at the shoulder because of the effort involved with holding the barbell at the rack in front of the body. Now obviously (Again With The Captain Obvious) I am referring to the barbell versions of this lift, but there are also other similar versions that can be performed with this such as with kettlebells.  If you are like me and enjoy the use of your bells then you may even enjoy intensifying this little movement by turning it into a thruster with the addition of an overhead press. See below...

Now this is a great variation that you can inject into your combat conditioning program in order to help you achieve some leg power with a little extra something for the shoulders and back. Front squats are great for helping you to develop that much needed core strength, leg power, and stability so that you can get your kicks on par with Chuck's kicks! It's not going to be easy, but neither is listening to Bieber Mania. Ok, so Bieber Fever...whatever the hell it is called. You get the picture. Nonetheless, if you utilize this information to benefit your current training program then you'll be able to kick the shit out of a moving car without even flinching!
